The Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation (TART) Trails board of directors and staff have seen some recent changes.

Brian Beauchamp, policy specialist for the Michigan Land Use Institute, has recently been nominated to the board along with Mike Stepka, a lawyer with Stepka & Aprea, who serves as the Grand Traverse County Commissioner appointee representative on the TART board. Susan Vigland, a training and wellness manager at Hagerty Insurance, has been elected to the TART Executive Committee serving as secretary.

Two long-time TART board members have resigned. John Tune, a copy editor for the Leelanau Enterprise, served on the TART board for nine years and for most of that term, he served as the Treasurer and later as Secretary. Wayne Seger, a professional engineer and sales representative for East Jordon Iron Works, served on the TART board for six years and chaired the Transportation Initiatives committee.

The TART staff now boasts four full-time employees by bringing Pam Darling on full-time in the fall. Darling is the Outreach Coordinator and handles volunteer and donor relations management. TART’s Trail Program Specialist, Missy Luyk, was recently nominated to at three-year term on the board of the Michigan Trails and Greenways headquartered in Lansing. Luyk hopes to share her invaluable experience working in the trails field over the past seven years to further trail projects and trail organizations on a statewide level.
