| Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation Trails, Inc. (TART Trails) is pleased to announce that, with an endorsement from Grand Traverse County, it has received a 2% grant from the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. The $50,000 grant from the Grand Traverse Band was to help fund TART’s Pathways to the Future Capital Campaign. The TART Trails Campaign was launched in 2002 to extend and improve the trail system by constructing new trails, improving existing trails, and connecting trails. TART Trails has received broad community support and has raised $795,000 to date. TART Trails is just $20,000 short of their Capital fundraising goal of $815,000.
TART Trails Executive Director, Bob Otwell comments, “I am thrilled that the Grand Traverse Band is in support of our Pathways to the Future Capital Campaign. Our trails meet the community’s needs for safe and accessible transportation pathways; open space and wildlife habitat protection, historical and cultural preservation; increased recreational opportunities close to home; economic development, and the enhancement of a sense of place.†The members of the Pathways to the Future Campaign Cabinet are committed to enhancing TART Trails’ ability to provide the finest recreational and transportation trails in the state. The generous support of the Grand Traverse Band will help us fulfill that mission. Many foundations, organizations, businesses and private individuals have already contributed to the capital campaign, but in order to complete all of the projects, TART needs an additional $20,000 in financial support.
