It’s been another exciting year at TART Trails connecting neighborhoods; adding more trails and bikeways; and encouraging folks to get outside to walk, run, bike and ski. Trails create memories and instill a sense of well being for people of all ages and walks of life.

Five-year-old Willa is one of TART’s newest trail users. This past summer she asked her dad to take the training wheels off and then bravely learned how to ride her first two-wheeler. It didn’t take long and with a new sense of confidence, one of her first outings was on the TART and Boardman Lake Trails. By the time she got back home she had logged 17 miles. 

Anna is in her mid 80’s and moved to the area to be closer to family. She lives in a retirement community adjacent to the Leelanau Trail. No longer driving a car, she rides her three-wheel trike to the grocery store to keep her cupboards stocked and regularly pedals over three miles to her daughter’s home to visit. The trail helps her keep her independence, get exercise and fresh air while providing a sense of adventure.
