Shoulders were added to the US-31 corridor just in time for the Cherry Capital Cycling Club's (CCCC) annual RAT (Ride around Torch) that occurred Sunday, July 20. One of the busy road segments of the ride is much improved this year. The Michigan Department of Transportation completed the construction of 8-foot wide shoulders along US-31 from Barnes Road, three (3) miles south of Torch Lake Village, to Old Dixie Highway, one (1) mile north of Eastport. Please get out and enjoy this great ride which serves as the club’s major fund raiser for operations. Kudos to the Michigan Department of Transportation who secured the federal enhancement grant, provided the local matching funds, designed the project, and followed through during construction. Thanks also to the Northwest Michigan Council of Government who worked with TART to put the grant application together.
