Ribbon cutting for Three Mile Trail: Oct 19

TRAVERSE CITY (October 16, 2006)— Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation (TART) Trails, Inc. and the Grand Traverse County Road Commission invite the public to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Three Mile Road and Three Mile Trail project.

The ceremony will take place on Three Mile Road near Parsons Road on October 19 at 3:30 p.m. We are celebrating:

• Completion of Three Mile Trail, a north-south trailway that intersects with the existing TART Trail at Parsons Road. The new trail starts at US-31 (near the State Park beach) and ends at South Airport Road.
• Completion of the widening of Three Mile Road between US-31 and South Airport Road.

These two projects were funded through various grants, enhancement funds, trail supporters and local businesses by non-profit organizations and local governments partnering together. We are pleased to see these major improvements to both our motorized and non-motorized infrastructure become a reality.

Parking is available at the Career-Tech Center located at 880 Parsons Road.

###
TART Trails, Inc. is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization formed in 1998 and located in Traverse City, Michigan. TART works to enrich the Traverse area by providing an interconnected network of trails, bikeways and pedestrian ways; and encouraging their use. The TART Trails are a network of four trail systems located in Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties and include the Boardman Lake Trail, Leelanau Trail, TART Trail, and Vasa Pathway. These trails combine to form over 50 miles of recreation and transportation pathways spanning from Suttons Bay to Acme Township. It is estimated that the trails serve over 200,000 users annually while preserving valuable community greenspace. TART is working to integrate these trails into the community by advocating for interconnected bike lanes, bike routes and sidewalks, and is also working to extend these trails to connect with a developing regional trails system.
