TART Wins Web Development

TRAVERSE CITY (May 9, 2002) - The web site for Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation (TART) Trails, a local nonprofit trail advocacy organization, was developed by Leelanau Communications, Inc. (Leelanau.com) as part of its Every Hundred Days project. The staff of Leelanau.com worked with TART Staff Member Missy Luyk to create the web site in a single day on Tuesday, May 7, 2002.

Leelanau Communications is one of Traverse City area's leading web site design firms, offering complete web services. Every 100 days, Leelanau.com of Leland devotes an entire day of production capability to web development on the behalf of a selected nonprofit, community, government or educational organization.

Andrew McFarlane, President of Leelanau Communications, understands the importance for organizations and businesses to have a web presence and offers the Hundred Days project to serve organizations that may not have the capital available to create a functional web site. "It's a lot of work, but when the day is over, it's truly rewarding to see the end product," says McFarlane. "Of course, I could have never started the Every Hundred Days project without such a driven staff. Jeremy Steck, Tim Fredrick, and Rebecca Ropp all play important roles in the development of the web site," adds McFarlane. Past Hundred Days projects include the Old Art Building for the Leelanau Community Cultural Center and the Girl Scouts Crooked Tree Council.

"The Every Hundred Days project was a wonderful opportunity for TART Trails. Our web site allows trail users to learn about the trail system and how to can get involved. It is also possible to download a printable map of our 4 trails, including the Boardman Lake Trail, Leelanau Trail, TART Trail, and the Vasa Pathway. It was exciting to watch the staff of Leelanau.com work together and get so much accomplished in only eight hours," Luyk said.

Thanks to Bruce Bodjack, Cherry Capital Cycling Club member, for many of the initial web site photographs.
