The Grand Traverse Hiking Club just received exciting news! Senator Carl
Levin will be present to help with the ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 AM
Saturday for the new spur trail connecting the VASA Trail with the KART
Trail in Kalkaska. To celebrate this special day, people will meet at the
first parking lot at Guernsey Lake Campground. Since Senator Levin is taking
the time from his schedule to visit with us, we would really like to have a
good turnout of trail supporters. Please try to find time to attend the
Trails Day celebration this Saturday. After the ribbon cutting ceremony John
Heiam will lead an hour long hike on the trail, Jay Warren will lead a
mountain bike ride and Lois Goldstein will lead a kayak/canoe tour on the
lake. So, bring either your mountain bike, your hiking shoes, or your kayak
or canoe. At 11:30 AM, people will meet at the boat launch for the picnic
pot-luck. Please bring a dish to pass, along with plates and silverware.
The Grand Traverse Hiking Club will provide the hot dogs and grill. There
are only a few picnic tables in this area so it might be a good idea to
bring a lawn chair, too. Contact Dick Naperala if you need directions or
more information, his phone number is 231-223-7903.
