TRAVERSE CITY- (June 13, 2003) The Board of Directors of Traverse City Light & Power (TCLP) voted to donate $50,000 to Traverse Area Recreation & Transportation Trails (TART Trails) Pathways to the Future Capital Campaign. The $1 million campaign was launched in 2002 to extend and improve the trail system by constructing new trails, improving existing trails, and connecting trails.
'We are happy to support the TART Trails Capital Campaign. Trails are used by everyone, from families with young children to seniors who are out to enjoy our lovely area. I can't imagine any other facility that has such a positive affect on more area residents than our local trails," said Linda Kreft, former TCLP Board President and current Board member.
TART Trails Executive Director Bob Otwell attended the June 10 board meeting. Otwell applauded TCLP for its support of the local trail system and its positive impact on the community.
Otwell noted that a recent TART study that surveyed over 1,000 trail users indicated that the top three recommended trail improvements would all be addressed in the Pathways to the Future campaign. Those three improvements include extending the TART Trail east; paving additional portions of the Leelanau Trail; and connecting the Leelanau Trail and TART Trail.
