TART is looking for a volunteer interested in getting certified for Up North 2 field and studio video production. There is a nominal fee for taking the classes, however, once you are certified you can unleash your creative juices and the possibilities would be endless. We’d like to be more savvy with our outreach efforts and to do that we need someone who is both passionate about our cause and has the technical video training. Maybe you are a Michael Moore in the making! Class details are below. Contact Pam at office@traversetrails.org if you are interested.
Field and Studio Video Production Classes
The CMC offers the following classes for Up North 2 Producers. Call 231-929-3696 to register (pre-registration is required).Â
Producer Orientation
Cost:Â Free
This class will get you acquainted with the Up North 2's facilities, cablecast rules and regulations, and options for content development. Upon completion of this class, you may submit programs for cablecasting on Up North 2*. Scheduled on a regular basis, this class meets once for approximately 2 hours.
*Note: In addition to completing the Orientation class, you must also be a resident of a participating municipality or a Northwest Michigan Community Media Center member to submit programs.Â
Field Producer Certification
Cost:Â $60/person ($50/CMC Member)
Prerequisite: Producer Orientation
This course will prepare you to create your own video content using cameras, microphones, lighting and editing equipment available from Up North 2. You will learn how to operate equipment and get practice in developing your own video content for cablecast. Upon completion of this class you will be certified to check out all Up North 2 field production equipment and use the video editing suites.  This class is scheduled regularly and requires a total of 8 hours, usually meeting 2 hours for each of 4 meetings. You must attend all 4 sessions (or make arrangements to make up a session) in order to become certified.
Studio Producer Certification
Cost:Â $40/person ($30/CMC Member)
Prerequisite: Producer Orientation
This class is designed to help Producers get up to speed quickly in the use of the Up North 2 Studio and Control Room, including remote camera control, sound mixing, titling and special effects, and lighting. This class will help Producers become effective in Up North 2's Studio and in working with similar equipment in other community locations (e.g., township meeting rooms). Upon completion of this class you will be certified to use the Up North 2 studio for your own projects. This class is scheduled occasionally and meets for 3 hours.
Digital Video Editing
Cost:Â $40/person ($30/CMC Member)
Editing is an integral part of the process of making a video. Class participants will learn the basics, and gain enough knowledge to fearlessly begin to edit program their programs. Topics include settings and preferences, capturing, working with clips and working with the timeline. This will be a hands-on class using Adobe Premiere Elements, but what you learn can be applied to any editing software. This class is provided when requested. Please call the CMC to register. Minimum enrollment: 4 students.
