Schedule of Events for Smart Commute Week

Many events and activities are planned throughout Smart Commute Week. They include:

Alternative Transportation Expo
Interested in reducing your carbon footprint? Learn about green transportation options at our inaugural Alternative Transportation Expo to be held Monday night, June 2, 2008 in downtown Traverse City. The expo features bike shop demonstrations, bike registration, walking/running gear, electric cars, hybrid cars, biodiesel cars, BATA bus, Northwest Michigan Rideshare Alliance, and a bike rodeo to teach your kids bike safety. Get it in gear and join the fun!

Bicycle Commuting Classes
Classes are again offered this year to provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to ride your bike on the road. The classes will be taught by League of American Bicyclists Certified Instructor, Reuben Chapman. The 3-hour courses will include 2-hours of classroom instruction and 1-hour of on-road training. Find out more here.

All week long, carpoolers get free parking in the parking deck. Make sure you tell the parking attendant that you are carpooling as part of Smart Commute Week.

Smart Commute Lots
For your convenience, Smart Commute lots have been designated for those who live too far to bike or walk to their workplaces. A Smart Commute lot is a designated parking area for you to park your car and finish your commute by biking or walking the rest of the way. Check out the parking options here.

Try Transit Day
Try Transit for free! BATA is offering free Cherriot bus rides on Wednesday June 4. Learn more.
