Mark your calendars for Saturday May 15th at 9:00am for Tails to Trails, a four paw 5K on the scenic Vasa Pathway for dogs and their owners. It's a unique opportunity to mingle with other dog owners, have a pet portrait taken, watch a canine training demonstration and experience a fun run/walk with your canine friend, all at the Vasa Pathway Trailhead off Bartlett Road:
Dogs will receive a commemorative bandanna (limited quantity), a goodie bag with treats and promotional dog items.
Several dog photographers will be on hand to take complimentary portraits of dogs and their owners.
Sean Nowicki of Traverse City Dog Training will be doing a demonstration of agility training with his Labrador Retriever named Babers. Watch Babers obey hand signals and commands in an energy packed demonstration.
Numerous raffle prizes from local pet friendly businesses will be given away.
To register visit www.traversetrails.org or stop by the TART Trails office at 415 S Union Street in Old Town. Pre-registration participation fees are $15.00 for individuals and $25.00 for families through May 8. Day-of-event registration will be $20.00 and $30.00 for individuals and families respectively. Day-of-event registration will open at 8:30am with the fun run/walk starting at 9:00am. Pets must be on a leash at all times. Owners are responsible for picking up after their pets.
"Dogs are the best personal trainers, they encourage their owners to get out in all types of weather year round and get moving" says Pam Darling, outreach coordinator for TART Trails. TART hosts numerous events on the trails but none are specifically for dogs. This inaugural event will become an annual tradition for dogs and their owners. "The response from the dog community has been awesome in terms of donations and in-kind support," continues Darling.
All proceeds of Tails to Trails benefit TART Trails, Inc.
The Vasa Pathway Trailhead is located off US31 to Bunker Hill Rd, turn right on Bartlett and left into trailhead parking area.
